70年代中期，西方社会流行迪斯科音乐。“Disco”一词，意思是“用播放唱片来替代乐队演奏的夜总会”。播放的唱片音乐或歌曲，短则四五分钟，长达十多分钟，并用一个固定的速度----每分钟112拍（一说125拍），以带有冲击感的音浪（每一拍都是重拍）推动人们扭动起舞。
1975年，当时的联邦德国有两个演唱组到美国去演出，都获得了很大成功。其中有一个由Hans Bouwens领导的4男1女组成的、名为“乔治.贝克尔选本“（George Baker Selection）的演唱组，他们演出的一首迪斯科歌曲《白兰鸽》在1976年1月10日登上了热门排行榜，夺得了当年美国Grammy的“悦耳音乐”最佳歌曲奖。而且持续几个月一直高踞在流行歌曲排行榜上。
